A Quilter's Post Even Frank Will Like

As some of you may know or can see here, I like to purchase a little bit of fabric for a quilt at every stop we make (when it's available) for a trip quilt.  The last one was... well... wider than the Airstream.  I wasn't really looking today but on the way back from the laundromat we saw a Quilt Store with a SALE.  Yeah, I know.  I have a problem.  The problem is about to take over the Airstream.  Honestly, I have more quilting fabric stashed in Minerva than I had before we left.  I have THREE quilt tops that need quilting, two stops that need sewing, a neck pouch or three to work on..... but I digress.

At this little (or not) quilt store, I found this great fabric.  It had this on it -

Then there was this - (I have a not so secret desire for one of these)

This as well...
 This too -

When possible I try to find fabric that represent the area.  I think this says Maine Coastline....
On this one I know what your gonna say "But your not as Disney yet...", true but how could I resist.  It is where we will end up!!

For those interest, they had an entire line of camping fabrics.... at least two other patterns with Airstreams on then.....

Mt. Desert Island

We decided to head out for a drive yesterday evening around Mt. Desert Island, to see a light house and through parts of Acadia NPS as well.

Something I learned on this drive is that even the best camera can't take moving pictures with limited light.  I took about 211 photos and only 30 of them were decent.

The Hand Sprayer Installation & The Jinx

Shawn swears I jinxed him but, honestly, it was just a matter of time.  He was having some minor problem with something, I don't remember what, in Minerva and I said "At least it's not the plumbing..."

This story starts innocently enough.  I had been wanting the hand spray kit for our Aqua Magic toilet.  We did not get the kit when we replaced the toilet and frankly it just makes life a bit easier.  Shawn did some research and discovered a way to use a regular kitchen sink sprayer.

Now as some of you might know, Minerva is a bit touchy about her plumbing.  She gets a bit cranky when you start messing with it.... well, really cranky.  Shawn followed the instructions for using the kitchen sprayer and nothing.  There just wasn't enough water pressure to run it.  He did some research and discovered that something appeared to be clogging the water module.  Can you see where this is going?

After another Battle Royale with the plumbing, Shawn thinks he's got it cleaned out (don't ask... I wasn't crazy enough to be listening to him) and suddenly..... there is NO WATER COMING OUT OF THE TOILET but many an unrepeatable words from Shawn's mouth.  The water module was broken.  Did I mention it's 9pm?  Thank goodness RV toilets don't work like household toilets.

I found an RV store an hour away in Bangor.  Their website stated they had the part in stock.  Shawn left long before I wanted to think the next morning to find the part.  They did not have one in stock but they did pull one off a toilet in one of their rigs.  They run out  of those pretty fast at this RV store.... hmmmmm.

Shawn installs it.  You know how from RV park to RV park the water pressure varies.  Well, apparently the water module had gradually clogged up and we just thought it was water pressure.  When he flushed the toilet for the first time the water pressure went from a trickle to a geyser in 1.5 seconds.  Oh, the Walmart bought hand sprayer works just fine......

Acadia National Park

Acadia National Park, the scene of Junior Ranger Badge #20.  Yes, folks we have indeed acquired twenty Jr. Ranger Badges and for the first time Shawn and I didn't feel like we should have earned one too.  The kids quite diligently worked through the booklet, took their hike, interviewed their Rangers and took their oath with little to no prompting from us.... while sharing a pencil.  It was painless for us and that is not always the case.

Before we get to Acadia we dropped into Bar Harbor, Maine for some brunch.  It was the weekend before the big season starts and let me tell you it was busy enough for me to NOT want to be here next weekend.

When asked what the best part of their day was this was the kids answer -

From the summit of Cadillac Mountain-

Random photo from the drive down the mountain to the coast and our Ranger led program-

Pictures from the Ranger Led Program, along Ocean Path Walkway -

Somewhere along here we saw an Eagle in flight -

And then we had to rush down to the visitor's center, get our souvenirs, a few Jr. Ranger's sworn in before heading home for dinner.

The Triplet Quilts Are Done....

I showed you this one, The First Triplet, a few weeks ago -

The Second Triplet was finished just a few days later -

The Third Triplet, well it was a bit of a pain.  I ended up having to rip out two rather long seams and about 20 smalls ones but it is now done -

Someone explain to me how, despite my promise to myself to only have two projects in the Airstream at a time, I have two quilts I am piecing, three that need to be quilted and one that hasn't been started yet?  That is right there are the makings of SIX QUILTS stashed in two or three places.....

The Shot Heard 'Round the World

New Jersey - The only state so far with the sign in the middle of the freeway.....

Almost spaced out and missed this sign... I was tired, slightly fatigued from just a small bit of alcohol, a little girl with a tummy ache crawling in my bed, sorta feeling like I was getting sick, and ................ Oh wait, did I space out again?
The end of this week's epic journey is in sight.  All I can say is thank goodness these North Eastern States are so small.  By the way, anything north east of Tennessee is a Northeaster to this southern gal.
We pulled into this great park, we scored a spot by the playground, our kids disappeared from the truck in nanoseconds, we unhitched & hooked up.  We arose not so bright and early this morning and headed to this place.

Minute Man National Park - North Bridge Visitor Center
For reference most people would say to finish here....
The Visitor Center and ground here are spectacular.
We saw a History Detectives Episode on PBS about one of these Cannons.  They actually show the episode here.
The gardens at the North Bridge Visitors Center-
These alone are worth a visit in spring -

Can you see it?  The British on one side and the Colonials on the other -  (This is at least the fifth bridge to occupy this spot since that shot was fired)

The Minuteman Statue
From the Nationalcenter.org website, here is the full hymn that you see the first verse of in the pictures below.

Graves of the British Soldiers (two of them) who died from those first shots -

The Old Manse - Ancestral Home of Emerson and later the home of Nathaniel Hawthorne

The Old Manse Boat House and Pictures of the River from the dock of the boat house.

The Emerson's had a the perfect view and watched the "Shot heard round the world" as it happened on the road that ran beside their yard.

Driving to the rest of the park meant going thru Concord.  The only picture I got that came out was of this church.

Hartwell Tavern, which is located on the Battle Road.  There is about five miles of the Battle Road you can hike, run, or bike.  We started at this tavern and walked 1.5 miles to the other Visitor's Center.
Although the tavern was not open yet, Shawn did manage to get one picture of the inside through a window.

The site of the Samuel Hartwell's House.
Captain William Smith's House -

There a several Memorial Markers along the way.

This marks the place that Paul Revere was captured and the other two Midnight Riders escaped.

Josiah Nelson's House Site -

More of the Memorial Markers -

Just in case we didn't know......
Only another half a mile to go......
The Non-North Bridge Visitor Center has a show that explains the events of that fateful day.  It will help you to put together the separate parts of the park.  This was a park that took some time to digest all that you see and learn.  It might also take some time for me feets to forgive me....

Things I noticed or loved -
The gardens are spectacular at the North Bridge Visitors Center.

It is like stepping into the footsteps of history.

The type of gravel and sand they use on the Battle Road, if you have enough people walking with or near you, brings to mind the sound of marching feet.  If you open your imagination just a bit you can hear that column of Brits marching toward Concord in your mind.

I could almost see those British Soldiers, in their Redcoats, trying to get to safety.  Walking or running down the road they'd just traveled earlier in the day and not knowing from which tree or boulder the next shot would be fired from.  Being sent into the woods, in small groups, to find the source of the shots and knowing that most who had done so had not returned.
